Latin Name: Sambucus
Sambucus is a type of flowering plant native to Europe, with clusters of small white elderflowers and dark purple elderberries growing on it.
Various parts of the plant, including bark, leaves, flowers, fruits and roots have been used as traditional remedies for centuries for its therapeutic properties. Its fruits and flowers are the most widely-studied parts that are reported to have high contents of various nutrients and antioxidants, such as phenolic acid, flavonols, and anthocyanins.
Being a potent antioxidant source, elderberry has been shown to fight off infections, relieve cold and flu symptoms and improve immune health.
