Red clover is a flowering plant that belongs to the legume family. Its flower is often used as a herbal remedy.
Historically, red clover has been used to help conditions like asthma, whooping cough, bronchitis, eczema and psoriasis. Red clover is a rich source of isoflavones, a type of phytoestrogen that posses similar chemical structure with female hormone estrogen. The level of estrogen declines with menopause, hence red clover is believed to have benefits for menopausal symptoms, such as hot flushes, night sweats, bone density loss, and high blood cholesterol.
