What is DNA?


DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid, which is a double-helix molecule structure that contains our unique genetic information. It is built with four types of bases – Adenine (A), Thymine (T), Guanine (G), and Cytosine (C). The order of these bases holds instructions for a living organism to develop, grow, live and reproduce; and such instructions are considered hereditary information as they are passed from parent to children.

What makes you different from him and her


A genome is composed of a complete set of DNA of any living organism. Although the genome of every individual is similar, minor differences do exist and they are termed as genetic variations. They are responsible for our physical appearances and health status, which makes each and every one of us unique.

The most common genetic variation is known as Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP). It represents the existence of a different single letter found in a DNA sequence of an individual, when compared to others. Referring to the example below, Order 1 differs from Order 2 by a single letter. This minor difference is associated with or affects physical appearance, genetic susceptibility to health conditions, response to drugs or vitamins, and so forth.

Wellness Genomics and the science behind it

Wellness Genomics is the science behind the identification of links between genetic variations present in your DNA and specific wellness traits. Genetic variations associated with decreased levels of an essential vitamin or mineral indicate risk for potential micronutrient deficiency.


For example, an individual with a higher genetics-based risk for a deficiency in vitamin D is encouraged to consume foods rich in vitamin D, monitor vitamin D level, and speak to a nutritionist or healthcare provider about vitamin D supplementation.


While it is important to follow general recommendations for all essential minerals and vitamins, it is as important to monitor those which you possess elevated genetics-based risks.


Your reports are generated by our Computational Genomics platform that provides the most rigorous science currently available to analyse genetics-based wellness. It is based on over a decade of highly curated global scientific research. When reading your report, do note that most wellness traits are influenced by three factors:


1. Your genetics
2. Your nurture environment (ages 0-7) and,
3. Your current lifestyle choices.


As such, genetics is not the only determinant for the actual presence of a trait. Genetic predispositions can only tell you the statistical likelihood of being predisposed to a particular trait, such as vitamin deficiency or skin youthfulness.



How accurate is the DNA-me™ test?


DNA-me™ is developed in conjunction with Imagene Labs, a qualified genetics partner with Singapore Ministry of Health license and College of American Pathologists (CAP) and ISO17025:2005 accreditations.


Your saliva sample is processed by scientists in Imagene Labs’ genetics laboratory to extract your DNA. We use Illumina DNA microarray technology, which is developed in collaboration with several leading research institutions, to analyse your sample.


This chip contains highly-informative genome markers found across diverse world populations, and allows us to quickly and easily sample your DNA for unique genetic dispositions to various wellness traits. Your sample is then scanned on the Illumina iScan microarray, which is a robust platform that provides reproducible and high-quality genotype data.


Samples run within our lab have demonstrated a 99.5% level of concordance, as compared to other diagnostic accredited facilities. This high level of concordance gives us the confidence that we are processing DNA samples according to stringent and exacting quality standards that are required of a medical diagnostic laboratory. We continually strive to keep up with the latest developments in the field of Wellness Genomics, to provide you with the most up-to-date information.


How is my DNA sample/data protected?


We take utmost care when dealing with customers’ personal and genetic data. We adhere to the stringent data privacy standards of the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act. On data security, the data is accessed and generated in a licensed and accredited secured laboratory, and then transmitted and stored in an ISO-compliant secure cloud storage. Our user web portal is secured with multiple layers of protections covering encryption, data integrity and authentication, so users can access their DNA reports in a safe and secure manner.

Where can I find my swab kit ID?


Swab kit ID can be found on a barcode sticker pasted on each collection tube.

DNA-me™




A. Remove one wswab stick by slowly rotating the white cap to
open the collection tube. Do not discard the collection tube or
touch the swab stick with your hands.
B. Without touching the teeth, lips or other surfaces, swab
firmly against the inside of one cheeck continuosuly for
1 minute.
C. Place the swab stick back into the collection tube. Ensure
that the cap is closed tight.
D. Repeat steps A-C with the second swab stick with the other cheek.
E. Finally, place both collection tubes back into the box.
